Cyclones split doubleheader with Panthers

Tuesday night on the road, the HCHS varsity softball team played a doubleheader against the Creston Panthers and won the first game, 7-5, but dropped the second game, 6-2.

During game one of the doubleheader, the Cyclones scored four runs in the second inning and three in the third inning.

“It was good to see the bats come alive,” said HCHS Head Softball Coach Toshia Kasperbauer. “We needed that. We were disciplined at the plate and waited to get good pitches to hit.”

Senior Tianna Kasperbauer pitched all seven innings in game one for the victory and struck out three batters. Despite suffering the loss in game two, she struck out seven batters.

“Tianna knows she has one job and it is to throw her game,” Coach Kasperbauer said. “She has a lot of different pitches she can play with and she is only going to get stronger. She likes to be on the mound and she wants to be her best each and every night.”

In game two, senior Jordan Heese knocked in the two runs and had two hits.

“Jordan needed that,” she said. “Jordan has power behind her swing when she connects. She just had to be disciplined at keeping in stride in check.”

Their next match will take place on their home turf Wednesday at 7 p.m. against the Lewis Central Titans who have won their last two games.

“We will not have a night off,” she added. “We have to be ready to go each and every night.”
