Cyclones stomp Mustangs on senior night

The HCHS varsity baseball teams bats continued to stay hot as they welcomed the Shenandoah Mustangs to their field for a doubleheader and mercied them in both games. They won the first game 10-0 and the second game, 12-0.

“We kind of got a slow start in that first game, but guys starting putting together good at bats and good approaches and put some good swings on it,” said HCHS Head Baseball Coach Heath Stein.

Before the start of the second game, seniors Joey Moser, Luke Musich and Alex Monson got honored as their final season of high school baseball is coming to an end.

“They’re great kids,” he said. “Good competitors and really good leaders for our team, so it was nice that we could honor them.”

Senior Alex Monson got the ball in game one of the doubleheader. He struck out 10 batters and gave up just two hits. Later, Cael Goshorn got the ball for game two, struck out four batters and allowed just three hits as the Cyclones cruised to another victory.

“It was our plan to kind of shorten Monson up anyway,” Coach Stein said. “He did a really good job. He was throwing some good changeups, so it was good to see out of him. Cael, worked through his struggles early, but then he became really efficient at the end, which was good to see.”

The Cyclones will play the Carroll Tigers, 1-21, next on the road Tuesday night, whom they will have their first round playoff match against on July 8th.

“It’ll be another battle,” he added. “It’ll be good to see them. They’re a team that’s not in our conference.”
