Cyclones win tough battle over Saintes

It was a cold and rainy night at Merrill Field, but with about nine minutes on the clock, senior goalkeeper Lexi Musich saved the day by stopping St. Albert from tying up the game.

“That was a huge one,” said HCHS Head Soccer Coach Jared Boysen. “She laid out with her body and made a great save on that.”

Both teams were locked in a scoreless tie at the halfway point. However, the Cyclones prevailed in the end winning 1-0 on the strength of Freshman Aubrey Schwieso’s lone goal on the night.

“I think this one will help her gain some more confidence to finish out the season,” he said. “She stepped up real well scoring for us.”

The Cyclones had a bit of a scare early into the second half of the match when Freshman Ivy Stephens left the game due to an injury.

“The girl hit her ankle as they were both going for the ball,” he added. “She’s injured it a couple times before in the season. Hopefully she can recover quickly and be ready for this last stretch.”

Their next match will take place tonight on the road at Denison High School against the Monarchs, 3-7, at 6:30 p.m.
