Comments from Head Coach Payton Wilkenfeld
“I was really looking forward to this season as we would have had a strong team. I believe we would have been able to start off strong in the 4x800 (Makaela, Makenzie, Ella, Camryn), distance medley and sprint medley relays. I was confident we would be able to hold our conference title in the 4x800 and possibly break the school record if the girls were to really challenge themselves.
“In regards to individual events, we would have been pretty competitive in the mile with Kate Hansen and Ella Petersen and the two-mile with Ella as well. I was looking forward to seeing Katie Andersen in the 100, 200 and 400. Katie is a natural athlete and puts great effort in anything she does.
“I know it’s disappointing for the seniors (Selena Nichols, Caitlin Meyers) to not be able to compete this year as they both had high expectations of themselves and completing their high school sports careers on a high note. My heart breaks for these girls and all other seniors as this is a very difficult time and a hard thing to process and accept. Without having a completed season this year, I am looking forward to next year more than ever. These athletes deserve to compete and I know they have a lot to prove and can accomplish great things on the track. Going into next year, our seniors (Camryn, Claire, Makaela) will be great role models having gone through this experience.”
