Grobe’s late touchdown catch lifts Vikings past Wolves

 MANNING (Aug. 27) -- Raydden Grobe’s leaping touchdown grab with 19 seconds left capped an impressive fourth quarter rally by AHSTW Friday night as the Vikings topped IKM-Manning 20-16 in the season opener for both area football teams.
 The Wolves led 16-7 after Trey Jasa’s three-yard TD run with 5:01 left in the third, but the Vikings were able to put together scoring drives of 76 and 82 yards the rest of the way.
 A 14-play, 76-yard drive was capped by Denver Pauley’s four-yard touchdown with 11:02 remaining.
 AHSTW got the ball back with 4:07 to go and marched 82 yards in eight plays. With just 19 seconds left, quarterback Kyle Sternberg lofted a pass toward the left corner of the end zone and Grobe was able to outjump the defender for the game-winning 19-yard touchdown catch.
 IKM-Manning had never trailed until the closing moments, starting the game with a 17-play, 78-yard scoring drive that ate up 10 minutes of first-quarter clock. Nolan Ramsey’s 24-yard TD pass to Eli Dreyer and Amos Rasmussen’s extra point made it 7-0.
 AHSTW tied the score late in the first half on Pauley’s 16-yard touchdown run and Grobe’s PAT, but Rasmussen drilled a 40-yard field goal with :02 left to put the Wolves up 10-7 at intermission.
