Grubbs to play college hoops at Wartburg

ELK HORN -- Tatum Grubbs, a 2021 graduate of Exira-Elk Horn-Kimballton High School, signed a letter of intent this past spring to continue her academics and basketball career at Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa.
Grubbs was a four-year starter for the Spartans, finishing her career with 947 points, 224 assists and 150 steals while helping the team make appearances in the Class 1A state tournament semifinals as both a freshman and senior. She almost certainly would have joined the 1,000-point club if not for a torn ACL suffered during Christmas break this past season. Grubbs elected to delay knee surgery until after the season and continued to suit up for each game and cheer on her teammates. She even saw playing time in eight out of 17 games following the injury and scored five points in the fourth quarter of the Spartans’ state semifinal loss to Bishop Garrigan. She finished the year averaging 7.8 points per contest.
Grubbs underwent knee surgery on March 10, was cleared to jog in May and was hopeful to resume basketball activities in August or September. She expects to redshirt this upcoming season as she continues to strengthen her knee, but is excited to get back on the court and playing at close to 100 percent again soon.
