Harlan Community Softball Recap

 HARLAN -- The Cyclone softball team notched a third consecutive winning season this summer, finishing 26-12 overall and tying for second place in the Hawkeye Ten Conference at 16-4. They are 69-25 over the last three seasons and have reached the Class 4A regional final round the last two years.
 Led by a veteran cast of five seniors and three juniors, HCHS never lost more than two straight games outside of a three-game slide in the Fort Dodge Tournament. Most of the Cyclones’ defeats came against top-10 ranked teams, including a 10-0 loss to top-ranked Winterset in the regional final.
 HCHS batted .307 as a team, paced by Jordan Heese (.361), Emily Brouse (.358) and Julia Schechinger (.358), and outscored its opponents 247-122. Brouse, who was also the team’s ace pitcher (14-7, 2.02 ERA, 221 strikeouts), earned second team All-State honors from the IGCA.
