HCHS baseball team sweeps Tigers

 HARLAN (June 21) -- Harlan Community got excellent starting pitching from Thomas Ernst and Cael Goshorn Monday night to sweep Red Oak in a baseball doubleheader, 10-0 and 13-3, at Jim Goeser Field. Both games were called by the 10-run rule after six innings.
 Ernst (1-0) pitched a two-hit shutout in game one, issuing just one free pass on a hit-by-pitch and striking out three Tigers.
 Goshorn (1-0) worked through the fifth in his first-ever varsity appearance, allowing two hits and two earned runs in the night cap. He walked three, hit one batter and struck out four. Stephen Leinen pitched a 1-2-3 sixth with two Ks in relief.
 Offensively, the Cyclones started out strong in both contests, taking a 6-0 lead after two in game one and building a 7-3 advantage through three in game two.
 HCHS totaled just six hits in its 10-0 victory but was aided by eight Red Oak errors. Isaiah Ahrenholtz had a double and two RBI, Kelby Lasher singled and drove in three runs while Ernst singled and drove in a pair. Also adding singles were Quinn Koesters, Alex Monson and Cade Sears. Monson, Joey Moser and Luke Musich scored two runs each.
 The Cyclones tallied nine hits in game two, drew 10 walks and were hit-by-pitch three times as well. Moser went 2-for-3 with a double, two runs and two RBI while Teagon Kasperbauer was 2-for-3 with two runs and three RBI. Lasher went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI and Matt Sorfonden doubled and scored twice.
 HCHS (7-9, 6-7 Hawkeye Ten) notched its second doubleheader sweep of the season while Red Oak dropped to 3-15 overall and 1-13 in league play.
