HCHS Boys Varsity Tennis falls to 0-7 on the season

On Tuesday, the HCHS boys varsity tennis team battled the Denison-Schleswig Monarchs and lost 9-0. Despite not winning any overall matches, a few players on the roster got some individual game wins, including one player who got his first individual game win.

“Eric Torneten got his first game win last night in singles but fell 1-10 to his opponent,” said head coach Dillon Stane. “The stand out of the match was Andrew Andersen who played an amazing match against Colin Reis, but ultimately fell 5-10.”

Denison’s team is ranked #8 in the state of Iowa. Despite playing such a tough and competitive team, Stane spoke on behalf of how he felt his boys performed against a team that talented.

“I thought our boys played okay for seeing such a high level of talent for the first time this year,” he said. “Denison as a team is probably the best overall team that I have ever seen in my life.  From top to bottom Denison has kids that are going to be able to compete against any other team in the state.”

The next match for them will take place Thursday at the Lied Recreation Center against the Clarinda Cardinals who are 4-2 at 4:30 p.m.
