HCHS continues impressive January surge
HARLAN -- When you’ve got 10 seniors on the roster, mixed with talented juniors and sophomores, five-on-five practice drills can get downright intense at times.
Which is why Harlan Community senior Kyle Juhl points to practice time as a big factor in the Cyclones’ rapid improvement since Christmas break.
HCHS continued to impress on Monday night, putting a 10-0 run on Kuemper Catholic to start the third quarter - increasing an eight-point lead to 18 - and finishing off the Knights 70-51 for key conference home win.
Playing four games in seven days since returning from a two-week hiatus, the third-ranked (3-A) Cyclones have handed both Atlantic and Kuemper their first official Hawkeye Ten defeats while also winning at St. Albert and A-D-M by a combined 47 points.
HCHS is now 9-1 overall and 6-0 in league play - all alone in first place - while the 11th-ranked (2-A) Knights fell to 7-4 and 5-1.
