HCHS Girls Tennis takes eighth in Hawkeye Ten

On Wednesday, the HCHS girls varsity tennis team played in the Hawkeye Ten Girls Tennis Tournament. They took home eighth place out of 11 teams that competed.

“Overall the girls placed eighth in the Hawkeye Ten tournament,” said HCHS Head Tennis Coach Katie Arentson. “While their play on the court was great, I am even more proud of the way that they treat each other and their opponents.”

Arentson highlighted players on her roster that stood out throughout the course of the tournament.

“Alli Owens represented our team in the number one doubles division,” she said. “She started out amazing with an 8-2 win over Rio Johnson from Atlantic. Erica Rust had a great start as well with a big win over Ramos from Red Oak. Unfortunately, she was then placed against the number two seed from Lewis Central.”

Their next match will be Monday in which they play the Lewis Central Titans, 9-2, at home at 4 p.m. Arentson spoke on behalf of how proud she is and is excited for what’s to come.

“They make me proud as a coach, and the city of Harlan should be proud as they represent our school at these events in such a positive way,” she added. “I can't wait for the district and regional tournaments to begin so we can make more fun memories as a team.”
