HCHS opens fall camps as state releases updated guidance

 HARLAN (July 29) -- The Harlan Community School District will be holding preseason fall sports camps for football, volleyball and cross country during the next two weeks, as well as a youth softball camp on four Sundays in August.
 HCSD Activities Director Davis Pattee noted that “all activities will follow all of the state guidelines” in relation to COVID-19 safety for camps and the start of fall practices during August.
 On Wednesday, July 29, the Iowa High School Athletic Association and the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union released updated information and general guidance relating to COVID-19 for its member schools and participants in activities for the fall 2020 season.

 “With the release of the new guidance from the IHSAA and IGHSAU, the Harlan Community coaches and sponsors are researching, collaborating and planning to meet all of the latest guidelines,” Pattee said. “Ongoing work continues with public health and district leaders to create safety plans for Harlan Community Schools.
 “As all recommendations and requirements are subject to change from the state and local level, so too is the specific guidance from Harlan Community. More information will be presented to sport and activity-specific groups from their respective coaches and sponsors. In the meantime, everyone can access the releases from activity governing bodies online.”
 The 2020 Cyclone Football Camp will be held Monday-Friday, Aug. 3-7 for grades 9-12 (8:00 to 11:00 a.m. each day) and Monday-Thursday, Aug. 3-6 for grades 7-8 (1:00 to 4:00 p.m.).
 The 2020 Cyclone Volleyball Camp will take place Monday-Wednesday, August 3-5 from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. for grades 9-12 and noon to 2:30 p.m. for grades 7-8.
 The 2020 Cyclone Cross Country Camp (grades 9-12) will be held Wednesday-Friday, Aug. 12-14, starting at 8:00 a.m. each day.
 A 2020 Cyclone Softball Camp will be held August 9, 16, 23 and 30. Grades 3-5 will meet from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m., followed by grades 6-8 from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m.
