Lady Vike harriers place 2nd to Lo-Ma in home meet

 AVOCA (Sept. 17) -- The AHSTW girls placed second as a team and Quentin Dreyer’s third-place finish led the IKM-Manning boys to third on a hot Tuesday afternoon for the AHSTW Cross Country Meet. Exira-Elk Horn-Kimballton also competed at the Avoca Golf and Country Club in a meet that featured 142 high school runners.
 Paced by sisters Taylor and Courtney Sporrer in first and second place, top-ranked (1A) Logan-Magnolia won the girls team title with five runners in the top 13 and a solid team score of 24.
 The 10th-ranked Lady Vikes, competing without their number one runner, Ryann Portch (illness), and others for the second straight meet, still scored a 46 for second place. Julia Kock and Jade Draman placed seventh and eighth, respectively, for AHSTW, Chloe Falkena was 11th and Holly Hoepner came in 15th.
 The Exira-EHK girls placed fourth with a team score of 98, led by freshman Ella Petersen in 19th place. The IKM-Manning girls, one runner short of qualifying for a team score, were paced by Morgan Hanson (14th) and Kate Sutton (16th).
 St. Albert won the boys team title with a 38, followed by Treynor (47) and IKM-M (76). St. Albert’s Bennett Heisterkamp won the five-kilometer race by nearly a minute, finishing in 16:22.
 Dreyer performed very well in the conditions for IKM-Manning, placing third out of 84 runners in 17:26. Three other Wolves finished in the top 20: Connor Keller (13th), Tanner Spoelstra (16th) and Adam Gruhn (19th).
 The Exira-EHK boys’ only runner, Treaven Hill-Borger, came in 41st.
