Lady Vikes hold off IKM-M girls in battle of unbeatens

 AVOCA (Dec. 10) -- The AHSTW girls basketball team kept its undefeated start alive here Tuesday night with a hard-fought 53-43 victory over previously unbeaten IKM-Manning.
 The game was tight throughout, with AHSTW building a 30-22 halftime lead and holding the Wolves at bay in the second half. IKM-Manning never pulled closer than four points down the stretch.
 The Lady Vikes, led by Claire Denning’s 19 points and Kinsey Scheffler’s 13, improved to 5-0 overall and 3-0 inside the Western Iowa Conference. Denning made 8-of-17 shots and also tallied seven rebounds, three steals and three assists. Scheffler was 6-of-6 at the free throw line and added a team-high nine boards and five assists.
 IKM-M (3-1, 2-1 WIC) was led by Lexi Branning’s 16 points (8-of-12 shooting) and five rebounds while Alexa Ahrenholtz had 10 points, five rebounds and five steals. The Wolves were outrebounded 32-21 on the night and made just 2-of-6 free throws.
