Lady Vikes rally past Creston for 4-3 regional win

AVOCA -- Trailing 3-2 with less than 11 minutes to play in Tuesday’s Class 1-A regional quarterfinal game, the AHSTW girls soccer team wasn’t ready to call it quits on the 2017 season.
Senior Olivia Kock tied the score in the 70th minute with her second goal of the match and senior Sarah True added her second goal five minutes later, sending the Lady Vikes past Creston 4-3 and setting up a Region 1 semifinal at eighth-rated Tri-Center (15-2) on Friday (June 2) at 6:00 p.m.
Tuesday’s back-and-forth match saw AHSTW (5-9) fall behind 1-0 early, then rally to a 2-1 lead before once again trailing by one and recovering to win.
“At the end of the game, Katie Anzalone said, ‘Coach, we ain’t going home yet,’ and that’s exactly how they played. We are ready for Tri-Center on Friday night,” said Lady Vike head coach Emily Krummel.
Kock and True, who also scored just three minutes apart during the first half, assisted each other’s second goals down the stretch and combined for 11 of the team’s 15 total shots and seven out of nine shots on goal. Coach Krummel was impressed with the defensive work of her other senior, Sami Kloewer, as well.
