Petersen, Kingery carry Spartans past Bedford 37-30

 EXIRA (Sept. 24) -- Junior quarterback Trey Petersen passed for 321 yards and four touchdowns and also rushed for 143 yards and a 50-yard score last Friday night as the Exira-Elk Horn-Kimballton football team outlasted Bedford 37-30 in an 8-Player non-district game.
 The Spartans improved to 3-2 overall with the win while the Bulldogs dropped to 2-3.
 The game was close throughout. Exira-EHK led 13-7 after one quarter, trailed 21-19 at the half and regained a 31-28 advantage going into the final stanza.
 Petersen was involved in nearly every offensive play for the Spartans and also picked off two interceptions on defense. He completed 24-of-35 pass attempts (four TDs, no interceptions) and carried the ball 21 times. Tyler Kingery, who had the only other two rushes, led the team with 13 receptions for 147 yards and one TD. Derrek Kommes caught two TD passes and finished with three receptions for 76 yards. Dane Paulsen had two catches for 49 yards and one TD while Aiden Flathers caught five passes for 45.
 Petersen’s longest touchdown throws covered 51 yards to Kommes, 39 yards to Kingery and 30 yards to Paulsen. Kingery added a huge play on special teams, returning a punt 74 yards for a touchdown.
