Petersen looking for more as Spartan girls keep winning

ELK HORN -- Even as his team glides into Christmas break unbeaten, Exira-Elk Horn-Kimballton girls basketball coach Tom Petersen sees vast room for improvement in many key areas.
The 2nd-ranked (Class 1-A) Spartans improved to 7-0 last Friday night with a 58-35 win over Ar-We-Va - their second victory against a team over .500 - but everything from poor outside shooting to a lack of communication left Petersen frustrated with the girls’ progression thus far.
Exira-EHK returned four starters from last year’s state tournament semifinal squad, but the absence of last year’s point guard, Rachel Smith, has forced position changes and left the Spartans without a vocal floor leader.
Petersen pointed out that senior Rose Andersen is playing point guard for the first time in her life.
