Portwood, Langenfeld named second-team All-State bowlers

Several Cyclones make All-District teams, Academic All-State

 HARLAN -- Seven members of the Harlan Community bowling teams received All-State, All-District and/or Academic All-State recognition from the Iowa Girls Coaches Association following the season.
All-State:
 The Cyclones’ All-State bowlers include seniors Bailey Portwood (Class 1-A girls Second Team) and Max Langenfeld (1-A boys Second Team), who were both ranked first out of six individuals on the Second-Team lists. Portwood led the Cyclone girls to a 9-2 record, averaging a 170.8 score per game and rolling a high game of 212 and a high two-game series of 403. Langenfeld led the Cyclone boys to an 8-3 record and essentially averaged a 200 game (199.7). His high game was a 245 and his top series was a 459.
All-District:
 Portwood and Langenfeld were also named First-Team All-District (West) for HCHS - both ranking third - while three teammates made the All-District teams as well. On the boys’ side, HCHS junior Mitchell Leinen (184.7 average, 263 high game, 473 high series) was ranked third on the Second Team and senior Mason Chamberlain (178.6 average, 224 high game, 412 high average) ranked third on the Honorable Mention list. On the girls’ side, senior Elizabeth Stroud (150.7 average, 221 high game, 361 high series) ranked third on the Honorable Mention list.
Academic All-State:
 Three Cyclone seniors - Zach Besta-Thompson, Chamberlain and Megan Owens - qualified for the Academic All-State teams. Requirements included an ACT composite score of at least 27 (or an SAT score of at least 1,200) and a cumulative GPA of 3.75 or above.
