Records fall as Cyclone boys outbowl D-S

DENISON -- The Harlan Community boys bowling team accomplished two feats in one night last Thursday, posting a school-record team score of 2,988 pins to beat Denison-Schleswig (2,651) for the first time in seven head-to-head matchups since the Cyclone program began in 2012.
Three Cyclones averaged better than 200 pins per game as junior Mitchell Leinen set individual school records with a high game of 263 and a two-game series of 473.
Senior Max Langenfeld also had a big meet, rolling scores of 203 and 238 for a 441. Josh Grote, who held the previous school record of 255 - set three years ago - added a high game of 236 and a 407 series. Zach Besta-Thompson tallied a 391, which was better than Denison’s second-best series.
After outscoring the Monarchs by nearly 200 pins during the individual round, the HCHS boys also put together a consistent series of Baker Games (178, 175, 185, 179, 221) to further widen the margin. The Cyclones improved their season record to 1-2.
