Spartan softball squad reaches 15-win mark
KIMBALLTON (June 14) -- The Exira-Elk Horn-Kimballton softball team picked up a 5-1 non-conference home win over Nodaway Valley on Monday, improving to 15-3 overall.
Junior Macy Emgarten pitched all seven innings on the mound, allowing four hits and striking out 11. She escaped a second-and-third, no-out jam in the top of the first and kept the Wolverines scoreless until the fifth.
Exira-EHK took control with back-to-back two-run innings in the second and third. Hannah Nelson hit a sacrifice fly in the second and another run scored on a throwing error.
With two out in the third, Quinn Grubbs singled and scored on a triple that got by the Nodaway Valley center fielder. Mollie Rasmussen then singled off the glove of the third baseman to make it 4-0.
Gemini Goodwin, who also singled in the third, drew a walk in the bottom of the sixth, stole second base and later scored on an error.
Exira-EHK returned to Rolling Valley Conference play Wednesday and beat West Harrison 12-4.
