Spartan softball team rolls to 6-0 start
KIMBALLTON (June 19) -- The Exira-Elk Horn-Kimballton softball team improved to 3-0 in the Rolling Valley Conference with home wins of 9-4 over Boyer Valley Thursday and 8-0 vs. Coon Rapids-Bayard on Friday.
The Spartans also won two games at the Griswold Tournament Saturday to get to 6-0 overall.
Thursday’s head coaching matchup paired former high school teammates from IKM-Manning as Exira-EHK’s Andrea Nulle went against Boyer Valley’s Paige Gaskill.
The Spartans led 3-2 prior to a lightning delay, then scored two runs in the fourth and four in the fifth to pull away.
Shay Burmeister and Quinn Grubbs both had two singles and a double to lead the Spartan offense. Burmeister scored three runs and Grubbs drove in a pair from the nine hole. Kamryn Waymire also doubled and Mollie Rasmussen added a single.
Macy Emgarten pitched all seven innings for the win, allowing five hits and three earned runs, walking three, hitting one batter and striking out 13.
Emgarten pitched a shutout against CR-B and was backed up by a steady offense that scored three runs in the first and continued to chip away.
Burmeister again set the table from the leadoff spot, going 3-for-5 with a pair of doubles, two runs scored and two stolen bases. Alisa Partridge stole four bases and went 2-for-3 with one double, two runs scored and an RBI. Lexi Madsen also stole two bases and went 2-for-4.
