Spartans impressive in routing Sidney

ELK HORN -- One more victory was still required, but Exira-Elk Horn-Kimballton looked like a team destined for a return trip to the Girls State Basketball Tournament here Friday night.
If the 2nd-ranked Spartans play like they did against Sidney, it will certainly take a big-time performance to deny them a spot in this year’s 1-A state field.
Suffocating the Cowgirls with a mix of fullcourt presses and active 2-3 zone, the Spartans also showcased plenty of offensive firepower to win Friday’s Region 7 semifinal with ease, 55-16.
Exira-EHK improved to 22-0 overall and advanced to Monday night’s regional final vs. Nodaway Valley (18-5) at Red Oak. The Wolverine girls routed Essex 64-36 on Friday.
