Spartans reach 20-win mark in softball

 DOW CITY (June 25) -- Exira-Elk Horn-Kimballton capped a 3-0 week on the softball diamond Friday, staying unbeaten in Rolling Valley Conference play with a 5-2 win at Boyer Valley.
 The 14th-ranked (1A) Spartans trailed 1-0 after three innings and led just 3-2 after six, then scored two key insurance runs in the seventh to back winning pitcher Macy Emgarten, who fired a five-hitter with one walk and 11 strikeouts.
 Exira-EHK totaled eight hits - all singles - led by Emgarten and Mollie Rasmussen both going 2-for-3. Alisa Partridge, Quinn Grubbs, Makenzie Riley and Gemini Goodwin all had one hit and Partridge also walked twice and scored three runs. Courtesy runner Anna Potts stole a pair of bases and scored twice.
 The Spartans completed a season sweep of the Bulldogs (9-8, 6-6 RVC), improving to 12-0 in the RVC and 20-4 overall. They will finish out the regular season this week, hosting CAM on Wednesday and Woodbine on Thursday (July 1).
