Spartans score 17 runs in first inning, beat O-M 24-3
ORIENT (July 1) -- Plating 17 runs in the top of the first inning, Exira-Elk Horn-Kimballton cruised to a 24-3 win over Orient-Macksburg in non-conference baseball action Monday, winning its fourth straight game.
Taking the mound with a 17-run cushion, sophomore Hunter Andersen pitched all four innings for the Spartans and improved to 2-1 on the year. Andersen allowed five hits and three earned runs, striking out eight and walking three.
Offensively, Exira-EHK totaled 18 hits - eight for extra bases - and had nine steals. Anthony Kingery (5 RBI), Tyler Petersen (4 runs, 3 RBI) and Josh Pettepier (3 runs, 4 RBI) led the way with three hits each, including two triples and a double for Pettepier and one double by Petersen.
Cole Burmeister went 2-for-3 with a double, three stolen bases and three runs scored. Dane Paulsen was 2-for-4 with two doubles, two runs and two RBI while Trey Petersen was 2-for-4 with two runs and three RBI.
