Spartans sweep Warriors in doubleheader

Friday in Kimballton, the Exira varsity softball team played a doubleheader against the Whiting Warriors and dominated both games as they won their first game 12-0, and the second game 15-0.

“The girls were disciplined and knew what they were looking for during their at bats,” said Exira Head Softball Coach Andrea Nulle. “We have been focusing on having quality at bats this season and I thought up and down the line up, all night long, we had quality at bats.”

Throughout the course of both games, the Spartans pitching was dominant and continued to make pitches and keep the Warriors off balance.

“Macy [Emgarten] was in command the entire game,” she said. “She was ahead in the count for most batters putting the pressure on them. Mollie [Rasmussen] and Hannah [Nelson] each threw well in the second game for it being the first appearance on the mound for both girls this season. They kept the ball around the plate and trusted the defense behind them.”

With these two wins, the Spartans remain perfect with a 7-0 record. It won’t be easy for them to keep their record perfect as they will head on the road to Atlantic for a tournament over the weekend where they will play the Creston Panthers, the Clarinda Cardinals and the Lewis Central Titans.

“So far the girls have done a great job of staying in the moment and believing in each other,” she added. “The tone in the dugout is always uplifting and encouraging. They believe they are in the game until it's over.”
