Swensen signs LOI with Morningside

HCHS Senior Molly Swensen recently decided to further her education and basketball career at Morningside College. Swensen is excited for what’s to come.

“I just took my time, praying, and finding the right school for me that will help my faith and help everything in my life,” Swensen said before deciding.

Swensen’s coaches, Zach Klaassen, Sam Brummer, and Mark Kohorst, were in attendance at the signing.

“I’m real proud of her,” Klaassen said. “She’s one of those kids who battled through some injuries freshman and sophomore year. She’s a kid that wasn’t sure she was going to keep playing basketball and she came back and it worked out for her. She’s a really good shooter and an easy kid to coach. She’ll give you what you want and if you ask her to do something, it’s going to happen.”

During her senior season, Swensen scored 243 points, with 80 rebounds, 67 assists, 87 steals, and four blocks. She made history during a home game Dec. 10 against the Kuemper Catholic Knights, knocking down 10 3-point shots setting a new school record.

“She deserved that record,” Klaassen said. “I thought she was going to get the single season 3-point mark, but she fell a few short there. Just watching her shoot against Kuemper, she just kept hitting them.”

Swensen is grateful for her senior season as well as her time playing Cyclone basketball.

“I’ll remember the team and all the fun memories we made,” she said. “Everything about this team is amazing.”

Swensen expressed gratitude towards her family.

“They encourage me when I’m down or when I’m happy,” she said. “They’re always there for me.”
