Turnovers costly as Cyclone girls suffer first loss at Panorama

 PANORA (Dec. 12) -- Panorama erased a 17-4 first-half deficit and also put together a big rally in the fourth quarter Thursday night, scoring the last 14 points of the game to hand the Harlan Community girls basketball team its first loss of the season, 51-48.
 HCHS, which did not score following its second offensive possession of the fourth, committed 22 turnovers on the night, including eight in the second quarter and 10 in the fourth.
 The Cyclones led 17-4 late in the first period  but went into halftime tied at 25. They later led 48-37 early in the fourth but would not score again.
 HCHS (4-1 overall) made 7-of-20 three-pointers and shot 38.5 percent overall but went to the line for just two free throws. The Cyclones outrebounded the Panthers 36-19, including 15 offensive boards, but could not overcome the two waves of turnovers.
 The Cyclones’ balanced scoring attack included 12 points from Jocelyn Cheek, 10 from Claire Schmitz and nine each by Brecken Van Baale and Raegen Wicks, who made all three of her 3-point attempts. Macie Leinen grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds for the Cyclones and also had two blocked shots and two steals.
 Panorama (2-2) was paced by Payton Beckman’s game-high 20 points and eight steals.
