Vikings finish 4th at Early Bird; Wolves take 7th

Monday at Audubon High School, the AHSTW Vikings and IKM-Manning Wolves girls track teams participated with the Vikings earning a fourth place finish with 71 points and the Wolves coming in seventh place with 52 points.
“Overall it was a great first outdoor meet for the girls,” said Wolves Head Coach Emma Konkler-Petersen. “They showed strong performances in both relays and some individual events.”
In field events, Wolves Freshman Olivia Linde earned a fifth place in high jump with a jump of 4-08.00, right behind the winner, Rylee Hemmingson of Treynor, who won with 4-10.00. Vikings Sophomore Addison Carroll earned fourth place finishes in both the shot put with 32-01.00 and discus with 98-02.
On the track, the Vikings earned a first place finish in the sprint medley relay that featured Bella Lamp, Brooklyn Buck, Caitlyn Dills, and Loralei Wahling with a time of 1:56.78, beating out Tri-Center by less than one second. They also took first in the 4x400 which had Kennedy Wyman, Macey Goshorn, Ava Paulsen, and Yana Lander beating out Treynor by one second with a time of 4:28.20.
In individual races, Wahling set the tone for the Vikings in the 100m dash taking fifth place with 13.84, less than a second behind the winner, Isabella Buckholdt from Underwood. Lamp earned second place in the 400m dash with 1:03.50 just under two seconds behind Ally Adams of Underwood, who won with 1:01.66.
The Wolves had some strong relays including a fourth place finish in the 4x100 that featured Linde, Oriah Meiners, Grace Carroll, and Caylie Rasmussen finishing with a time of 54.38, 2+ seconds behind Atlantic who won with 51.78. The Wolves also took second place in the 4x800 that featured Addisyn Bandow, Kate Bandow, Carroll, and Taylor Beckendorf with a time of 11:12.21, 16 seconds behind Treynor, who win with 10:56.02.
In individual races, Rasmussen earned a third place finish in the 100m dash, while also earning a sixth place finish in the 200m dash. Addisyn Bandow was able to finish third in the 800m run with a time of 2:38.06, 4+ seconds behind Grace Steinmetz of Heartland Christian, with a time of 2:33.54.
“They showed strong performances in both relays and some individual events,” Konkler Petersen said. “Our 4x200, 4x400, 4x100, and 4x800 were our strongest relays placing towards the top.”
The Vikings next event will be Tuesday at Riverside High School where they will be one of eight schools. The Wolves ran in an East Sac County meet Friday where they were one of 11 schools.
“We look forward to seeing what the kids can do heading into East Sac on Friday,” Konkler-Petersen said.
