Vikings win 2-A district opener

 ROCKWELL CITY -- The AHSTW boys basketball team opened Class 2-A district play Monday night with a 54-38 win over East Sac County in a first-round game played at Rockwell City. The Vikings trailed 13-11 after one quarter before outscoring the Raiders 43-25 the rest of the way.
 The victory improved AHSTW to 10-10 overall and set up a District 16 semifinal vs. Ridge View (17-2) on Thursday night at Carroll Kuemper High School (6:30 p.m.). The winner will advance to Tuesday’s district final at Denison, facing either Kuemper Catholic or South Central Calhoun.
 R.J. Harris and Rhett Welsh led the Vikings against East Sac County with 17 points each while Jake Martin scored 10 points and Blaine Lees added four. Harris knocked down three 3-pointers in the game and made 6-of-8 free throws. Welsh grabbed a team-high nine rebounds, including four offensive boards, Preslyn Grobe had three assists and Martin came up with three steals.
