The “Church on the Hill” raises money for Tori’s Angels Foundation

HARLAN — “The Church on the Hill” (Congregational UCC/First United Methodist Mission Church) raised funds for Tori’s Angels Foundation as part of the church’s state mission project for 2025.Tori’s Angels Foundation assists Iowa families who have a child with a life-threatening medical condition by paying for medical expenses not covered by insurance. This support allows parents to seek the best possible care for their child without worrying about the financial impact. Assistance includes funding travel expenses to and from treatment (airfare or mileage, hotels, and meals), as well as co-pays, deductibles, and prescription medications approved by insurance for use in Iowa. Each child is supported until their 19th birthday. To date, Tori’s Angels Foundation has helped 188 families and is currently assisting 133 children — 65% diagnosed with cancer, 20% with heart conditions, and 15% with other life-threatening illnesses.During the worship service Sunday, September 28, Ashley Nihsen, mother of Ryker, shared his journey battling the “C monster.” Ryker was Tori’s Angels’ 140th sponsored child, and Nihsen spoke about the assistance her family received from the foundation to help with expenses.Sunday, October 5, special music was provided by Cindy Lefeber, Sandy Carroll, and Ron Greer, who performed the song “Angels Among Us.” A successful potluck meal and silent auction followed, with Ryker and his family — including three grandparents, an aunt, and an uncle — attending as honored guests. The event raised $3,530 for Tori’s Angels Foundation. For more information about Tori’s Angels Foundation, visit www.torisangels.org
