LOGAN — For seniors navigating Medicare and other insurance options, having someone local to answer questions and provide ongoing support can make a significant difference. That is the goal behind Midwest Benefit Center, an independent, family-owned insurance agency based in Logan.
Owned and operated by Eric West and his wife, Kayla, Midwest Benefit Center was established to provide seniors and families throughout the area with personalized insurance guidance and dependable service.
“Unfortunately, in many of our smaller rural communities, finding someone local to sit down with and explain those changes isn’t always easy,” West said. “That’s one of the biggest reasons we started Midwest Benefit Center.”
The West family lives in Logan, where they are raising their children, who attend Logan-Magnolia schools. West said being part of the community gives them a personal understanding of the importance of having a trusted local resource.
One of the concerns West has observed in the insurance industry is the lack of ongoing personal service after a policy is purchased. Some seniors enroll in coverage through national call centers or work with an agent during enrollment but later struggle to find assistance when questions arise.
“Some don’t know who their agent is anymore, who to call about their coverage, or where to turn when something goes wrong,” West said.
At Midwest Benefit Center, the goal is to build lasting relationships with clients rather than simply help them select a policy and move on.
“We don’t want to be the agency that simply sells someone a policy and moves on to the next person. We want to be the agency they know they can call,” West said.
Whether clients have questions about a confusing letter, a medical bill or an insurance claim, the agency aims to remain a resource long after enrollment. Clients can also request reviews of their existing coverage as their needs change.
As an independent agency, Midwest Benefit Center works with multiple insurance carriers. This allows the agency to help seniors compare Medicare Advantage and Medicare Supplement plans and understand the options available to them.
West emphasized that reviewing Medicare coverage annually is important because plans can change from year to year, even when an individual’s healthcare needs remain the same.
“A plan that worked well last year may not be the best fit for the coming year,” he said.
The agency encourages seniors to review their coverage each year, especially when they receive notices about changes to their current plans. Midwest Benefit Center offers Medicare consultations and plan reviews at no cost and with no obligation to enroll or make changes.
In addition to Medicare guidance, the agency offers a range of insurance products for individuals, families and seniors. These include life insurance, annuities, dental and vision coverage, hospital indemnity insurance, lump-sum protection for cancer, heart attack and stroke, short-term home healthcare coverage, and other supplemental insurance options.
West brings years of experience in the insurance industry, particularly in serving the senior market. He said helping people understand their choices and feel confident about their coverage is central to the agency’s mission.
“Kayla and I aren’t just building a business. We’re building something for our family and our community,” West said. “We want to establish lasting relationships and become a trusted resource that families and seniors throughout our area can depend on for years to come.”
Midwest Benefit Center serves Harlan, Shelby County, Harrison County and surrounding communities, with a focus on making insurance information easier to understand and local assistance more accessible.
