    COUNTY -- Shelby County will pay $25 each for beaver tails from November 5-April 15 as part of an ongoing effort to minimize the damage the critters cause to roadways and structures throughout the county.    The county’s board of supervisors re-authorized the bounty this month, with a total dollar limit outlay of $5,000. Payments will be made on a first come, first served basis.

    SHELBY - Iowa farm history will come to life September 10-11 at Carstens Farm during the 34th Annual Carstens Farm Days.  Threshing machines, saw mill operations, crafters and vendors, quilt show, plus much more will abound at the farm.  The Carstens family farm home and the many out-buildings will be open for tours.  There will be something for everyone to enjoy.

HARLAN -- Emma Barnes found a passion and a cause in sewing headbands for children with hearing aids.    “You know that you’re helping people and you’re helping these families,” Barnes said. “You’re improving the life of the child.     HARLAN – Harlan Police are investigating a series of burglaries and attempted break-ins throughout Harlan the past three weeks, and are asking the public for additional help in catching those involved.    Police chief Frank Clark said the department has received seven reports of burglaries, of which four have been determined to be burglaries and three as suspicious activity.  The most recent was last Thursday morning at roughly 4 a.m., whe

    AMES - Because of their countless hours given to the Iowa 4-H program, 125 Iowa 4-H volunteers from 95 counties were welcomed into the Iowa 4-H Hall of Fame on Sunday, Aug. 21 at the 4-H Exhibits Building at the Iowa State Fair.    Among those inducted was Roger Ahrenholtz, Defiance, representing Shelby County.    Inductees were introduced on stage and awarded a certificate.

    HARLAN – Gene Gettys, Jr. officially was appointed as Harlan City Administrator Tuesday, Aug. 30 at a special meeting of the Harlan City Council.    In doing so, the council also accepted Gettys’ resignation as mayor.  Both actions were approved unanimously by council members Mike Kolbe, Jay Christensen, Greg Bladt, Sharon Kroger, Dave Pedersen and mayor pro tem Dave Miller.
