After coming off an impressive 42-6 victory over the Sergeant Bluff-Luton Warriors, the Cyclones will head to Creston Friday to take on the undefeated Panthers team, which is coming off a dominant 50-21 win over the Carroll Tigers.
“It’s always interesting going down to Creston,” said Cyclone Head Coach Todd Bladt. “We’re excited for the opportunity. It’s two good football teams that are going to meet up.”

The Cyclones struck early Friday night against Sergeant Bluff on a 17-yard touchdown run by Senior running back Noah Schmitz with just over a minute played. The Cyclones cruised to a 42-6 victory.

Thursday’s volleyball match between the Exira-EHK Spartans and the Woodbine Tigers started off in a back-and-forth affair, but the Tigers ultimately came away with the victory winning sets four and five 25-12 and 15-9 to earn its fifth win of the season and hand the Spartans its fifth loss.

It took five sets to dictate the winner of Tuesday’s volleyball game, but the Logan-Magnolia Panthers came out victorious over the AHSTW Vikings, winning three of five.
The Panthers took set one 25-20, the Vikings won sets two and three, 25-15 and 15-13, but the Panthers won the final two sets, 25-21 and 15-9.

The AHSTW Vikings, IKM-Manning Wolves, and Exira-EHK Spartans had multiple runners compete strong at the Avoca Golf & Country Club Tuesday afternoon including six runners finishing in the top 20 on the girls side and four runners finishing in the top 25 on the boys side.

For the second week in a row, the HCHS football team will be at Merrill Field hosting the 1-2 Sergeant Bluff-Luton Warriors.

In the fourth quarter with three seconds to go and the game tied at 14, Junior kicker Nolan Schwery kicked a game winning field goal and the Cyclones bench rushed the field and jumped on Schwery’s back, giving the Cyclones their second win of the season and handing Glenwood its first loss.

Cyclone Junior Lindsey Sonderman is starting off the season strong. She won the Lewis Central Invitational Saturday morning in Council Bluffs with a time of 19:24.4 finishing 61 seconds ahead of the second place finisher, Freshman Grace Berglund from Glenwood. Sonderman has won all three events to this point in the season.

The HCHS volleyball team ran into a buzzsaw Thursday night losing three straight sets to the Lewis Central Titans; 25-14, 25-14 and 25-17.
“In any competition, there are things to grow upon, win or lose,” said Cyclones Head Coach Elle Crees. “I think it this specific competition, we just needed more of an urgency to win.”

After a tough outing in its previous matches against Boyer Valley and Exira-EHK in a triangular last Thursday, the IKM-Manning Wolves volleyball team got back in the win column with a clean sweep of the Ar-We-Va Rockets, earning their second win of the season.
“It does feel pretty good to have some energy and play good together,” said Senior Ella Richards.

After going 1-1 in two road games to open their season, the Cyclones return to Merrill Field Friday night to take on the undefeated Glenwood Rams.
“It’s great to be back in town,” said Cyclones Head Coach Todd Bladt. “Merrill Field has got a cool feel to it and everything that goes along with it. That’s what makes it special. We’re facing a tough team here, there’s no doubt. Glenwood is much improved from a year ago.”

Towards the end of the first quarter, the Cyclones finally got Senior wide receiver Cade Sears involved on a 77-yard touchdown catch and run on a pass from Senior quarterback Will Arkfeld en route to an eventual 48-20 Cyclone victory over Denison. It would be one of three touchdowns Sears would score along with 195 receiving yards.

In its first action of the year, Boyer Valley was crisp beating the Exira-EHK Spartans and the IKM-Manning Wolves in the triangular at IKM-Manning High School Thursday evening.

The HCHS girls cross country team is off to a dominating start this season with only two events in the books. The girls finished in second place to open their season at the Glenwood Invitational Aug. 26 and most recently Aug. 29 finished in first place at the Shenandoah Early Bird event.

Tuesday night, the Exira-EHK Spartans volleyball team participated in a triangular at CAM High School that featured them, along with the East Union Eagles and the CAM Cougars.
