Supervisors hear library reports, approve salary resolution

SHELBY COUNTY — The Shelby County Board of Supervisors received annual reports from the county’s libraries during the Tuesday, March 3, meeting.
Tara Painter, Harlan Community Library director; Paulette Madson, Elk Horn Public Library director; and LaJissa Niklasen, Lied Irwin Public Library director, addressed the Board and discussed the various programs and features each library offers.
In other business, Chris Fredericksen provided a Secondary Roads report. The Board approved multiple right-of-way permits for FMCTC for various projects throughout the service area in Shelby County. Fredericksen stated road crews have been doing spot rocking on gravel roads.
The Supervisors gave updates regarding various committee meetings. Bryce Schaben reported he had attended the Southwest Iowa Juvenile Detention meeting, an EMA meeting, a Hotel/Motel grant meeting, and an EMA Hazardous Mitigation meeting. Mike Kolbe recently attended a Shelby County Chamber of Commerce and Industry board meeting. The organization is actively seeking a Chamber director. The Chamber’s annual banquet will be held Friday, March 27. Kolbe also attended an ISAC webinar that covered several topics, including data centers and mobile home cleanup regulations. Charles Parkhurst stated he was recently appointed to the SWIPCO Executive Committee.
The Board unanimously voted to sign the Multi-County 28E Agreement regarding the Juvenile Detention Center and Emergency Juvenile Services. The Board also passed a resolution to increase the salaries of elected officials. The increases, based on recommendations from the Compensation Board, were approved at a previous meeting; however, a resolution had not yet been passed.
The Board also approved a public hearing for the FY27 Proposed Property Tax Levy Notice, which will be held March 31 at 8:30 a.m.
The Board recessed before holding budget workshops.
