Veterans warned about misleading ‘savings program’ postcards

AREA — The Iowa Department of Veterans Affairs has been made aware of ‘Veteran Savings Program’ postcards being distributed nationally, and have been received throughout Iowa.
They are not related to any State of Iowa or U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs programs, instead originate from a for-profit marketing effort targeting a veteran audience and only appear ‘official’ to generate attention.
Carmen Felding, Shelby County Veteran Services Director said, “We advise anyone considering contacting the entity to exercise discretion, and contact your provider, or Iowa Medicare/Medicaid at 1-800-338-8366 (Toll Free) before making any final decisions. We remind everyone, by law, no veteran has to pay for assistance with their federal VA benefits.”
