Hansen House unveils all-electric carriages to enhance tenant experience

HARLAN — Hansen House is proud to announce the launch of its newest innovation in tenant engagement: all-electric carriages. Owners Rick Hansen and Bill McCarty recently hosted a special event where tenants became the first to experience these modern carriages, marking a significant milestone in the facility’s Life Enrichment Programing.
Inspired by the charm of traditional horse-drawn carriages, these state-of-the-art vehicles offer a nostalgic experience with a sustainable twist-no horses required. Each carriage is fully electric, with a range of 43 to 50 miles per charge and a full recharge time of 8-10 hours. The carriages feature headlights, signal and brake lights, seat belts, and an MP5 system with reversing camera.
Horse-drawn carriages were once a primary mode of transportation. In the early 20th century, they gradually phased out. Between 1900 and 1930, automobile and mechanized transport became more affordable and accessible. The transition began in cities, with electric trams and motor buses replacing horse-drawn public transport by the 1910s. In rural areas and specialized industries, they continued to be used into the 1920s and even later in more remote parts of the world.
The initiative is funded through revenue generated from Hansen House’s Airbnb accommodation, reflecting the organization’s commitment to reinvesting in meaningful experiences for its tenants. Accessibility remains a core focus, with steps which can roll up to doors enabling tenants of varying mobility levels to participate.
“Our in-house activities are fantastic, but we’re always seeking new ways to help our tenants enjoy fresh air and connect with the community.” Said the owners. “These carriages are a unique addition to our growing fleet, which includes a trolley, model T electric cart and train.” “Every wave from the community brings joy to our tenants and strengthens their sense of belonging.”
“Riding in the carriage made me feel like I was part of something special.” Said one tenant. “It’s peaceful, fun, and I love seeing people smile and wave as we go by.”
Hansen House continues to lead in creating inclusive, innovative experiences that enrich the lives of its tenants.
