HARLAN – Eleven HOSA-Future Health Professional students from Harlan Community High School have qualified for nationals following successful showings at the state conference held last month in Des Moines.    HCHS Chapter Advisor Nancy Osborn said the students will head to Nashville, TN in June, competing in events, attending educational symposiums and sightseeing.  They’ll get a chance to see such areas as Broadway, the Grand Ole Opry and

    HARLAN - The Shelby County Encore Concert series will be hosting its last concert on Sat., April 30 at 7:30 p.m. at the United Methodist Church. The program will feature the Alex Meiner Band.    “We are ending our 30 year run due to lack of membership,” 30-year event chairman Steve Lawson said.

    Gone, but not forgotten.    An on-campus group aims to sculpt a lasting legacy for a fallen student in the form of a memorial scholarship.    Aptly named the “Emmalee Jacobs Memorial Scholarship,” it stands in memory of the student whose life was lost in a hit-and-run accident in December for not only the Jacobs family and close friends but also generations of future ISU students.

 AUDUBON -- The Harlan Community boys tennis team picked up a 9-0 dual win at Audubon on Thursday, improving its season record to 3-3 overall. Earlier in the week, HCHS lost a home dual vs. Lewis Central, 6-3, putting the Cyclones’ at 1-2 in the Hawkeye Ten Conference. The HCHS-LC dual was tied 3-3 after singles play, but the Titans won all three doubles matches. Alec Plagman, Josh Cheek and Nolan Heese all earned Cyclone victories.

 COUNCIL BLUFFS -- Lewis Central won all three doubles matches to hand the Harlan Community girls tennis team a 6-3 dual loss on Tuesday, April 12. The Cyclones dropped to 0-2 on the season. Ashley Petsche, Jilian Meyer and Nicole Lange all picked up wins in singles play for HCHS.
