MANNING -- Exira-Elk Horn-Kimballton’s boys basketball season ended in the Class 1-A district semifinals last Tuesday following a one-point loss to Paton-Churdan, 38-37. The Rolling Valley Conference rivals had previously split two regular season games which were also closely-contested. The Spartans finished the season with a record of 17-6. 

REGIONAL -- The IKM-Manning boys basketball team posted lopsided Class 1-A district wins over Audubon (Tuesday) and Paton-Churdan (Thursday) to set up its Substate 7 final win over Nodaway Valley Saturday night. IKM-M outscored Audubon 46-17 in Tuesday’s second half to pull away for a 76-43 district semifinal win in Manning. Kyle Wagner nearly matched the Wheelers on his own, scoring 38 points to go with nine rebounds and six assists.

    HARLAN -- Willard J. Olson, 87, Harlan, died Tuesday, March 1 in Harlan.    Services will be held Saturday, March 5 at 10:30 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Harlan with burial in the Harlan Cemetery.  Friends may call Friday, March 4 from 2-8 p.m. with family greeting friends from 5-8 p.m.

    HARLAN -- Dave and Angela Voge of Harlan will mark their 25th wedding anniversary on March 2. Their family is requesting a card shower in their honor. Cards will reach them if sent to 1408 8th Street, Harlan, IA 51537.    They are the parents of four sons: Alex, Jordan, Drew and Jacob. The Voges are co-owners of Kroger Hauling. Dave is employed at Midstates Bank - Financial Management. He is also the soccer coach at HCHS. 

    COUNCIL BLUFFS -- Former resident Sally (Gearhart) Bugge of Council Bluffs will celebrate her 80th birthday on March 11. Cards will reach her if sent to Highclere Apartments #28, 105 Landmark Drive, Council Bluffs, IA 51503.    Sally has one daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Johnny Wiggs, Greenville, TX; and one son and daughter-in-law, Duane and Dale Bugge, Bellevue, NE. She has six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. 

    HARLAN -- Abby Svendsen and Jeffrey White both of Harlan were married at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Harlan on September 26, 2015. The 2:30 p.m. double ring ceremony was performed by Pastor Jeff Erlemeier.    Parents of the couple are Doug and Lori Svendsen, Harlan; and John and Lynne White, Harlan.

    DENISON -- Fans and cheerleaders turned out in full force to cheer on the Harlan Community Cyclones’ boys basketball team as it took on Carroll Thursday.  The boys lost in overtime to see their season come to an end.

    COUNTY -- Shelby County Emergency Service Officials, including Fire Chiefs, Law Enforcement, and Emergency Management will begin twice weekly updates this week on local fire danger conditions.    Signs placed strategically in each community, primarily at the fire stations will indicate what the fire danger is for any particular day.
