William Joseph Stinn, was born to Wilfred Joseph and Arlene Marie (Sick) Stinn on September 30, 1955 in Harlan, Iowa. He was raised on a farm outside Portsmouth and attended country school until 5th grade. He then attended Harlan High School where he graduated with the class of 1974.

Joanne Clara Lapke, 92, died on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, at Azria Health Rose Vista in Woodbine. She was born on January 3, 1934, on their family farm three miles west of Harlan, Iowa to Rudy and Clara (Hofer) Rosman. She was the youngest in her family of four brothers. Joanne attended a one-room country schoolhouse for grades first through sixth. She then attended Jr.

HARLAN — Harlan FFA members recently helped improve agricultural literacy among Harlan Community School preschool through fourth grade students through the chapter’s annual Sprouting Cyclones Program.
Formerly known as the Food for America Program, Sprouting Cyclones is an educational initiative that teaches young students about agriculture while giving FFA members an opportunity to connect with their community.

HARLAN —With temperatures soaring into the 90s, RAGBRAI participants found ways to cool off after arriving in Harlan Sunday. The community hosted thousands of cyclists and support staff as the annual ride made its first overnight stop of the week. Despite the intense heat, riders enjoyed food, entertainment and hometown hospitality before departing early Monday morning for Day 2 of the ride across Iowa.

LOCAL - After a season that ended within one game of the Class 3A State Tournament, Harlan Community was rewarded with seven selections on the 2026 Hawk-eye 10 All-Conference Baseball Teams.
Headlining the group was junior infielder and pitcher Colton Schneider, who earned First Team All-Hawkeye 10 honors for the second consecutive season.

Sr. Charlita Foxhoven, SSSF, who devoted her religious life to accepting and financial leadership for her congregation, died June 9, 2026 at Sacred Heart in Milwaukee. She was 94.
Born Sept. 26, 1931 in Earling, she professed final vows with the School Sisters of St. Francis on June 21, 1965.
