Shelby County - Gerald “Jerry” Lee Krantz passed away at Scripps Mercy Hospital, San Diego on August 13, 2024 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on December 13, 1938 in Shelby County, Iowa to Walter and Bernice (Hulsebus) Krantz. Jerry grew up in St. Charles, Minnesota and lived there until he finished highschool in 1957. His parents farmed and ran a cafe. Jerry proudly served in the United States Navy from 1959 - 1963.

Harlan - Sandra Lee Haney, 78, of Harlan, IA, passed away peacefully on December 8, 2024 at Hansen House in Harlan, IA.Though Sandra had been in and out of the hospital for the past few years, battling infections and an ankle injury, she has always been resilient and the mention of hospice came as a surprise. Defiance - Alice Theresa Rau, the daughter of Anthony and Elenor (Thraen) Schleimer, was born on a farm in Defiance, IA on February 25, 1936. She attended country school and St Mary’s High School in Panama, IA, graduating with the class of 1954. On May 26, 1955 she married Leonard Rau at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Panama. To this union nine children were born: Connie, Joan, Ronda, Gary, Jolene, Robert, Craig, Leslie and Keri.

Harlan - Tony Joseph Kloewer was born to Norbert and Patricia (Cunningham) Kloewer on April 26, 1964 in Harlan, Iowa. He was raised on the family farm near Westphalia, Iowa, where he developed a strong work ethic and deep family values. Tony was baptized and confirmed at St. Boniface Catholic Church, where he also began his education at St. Boniface Catholic School.

The Harlan Community High School boys soccer team was not able to recover from a strong first half by the St. Albert Falcons offense Monday night at Merrill Field. After the Falcons scored five goals in the first half, the Cyclones fell short and lost their second game of the season 5-2.
