Albertsen commits to play basketball at Iowa Western

HCHS Senior Grace Albertsen will continue her education and basketball career at Iowa Western.
“It’s pretty cool,” Albertsen said. “If you had asked freshman me if I was going to go play basketball in college, I probably would’ve laughed and said no. Looking back, I’m glad I decided to and I’m excited for the next three years.”
Albertsen said Iowa Western made her feel at home.

He was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Harlan.

Jacksonville - John Kenneth Haas was born September 1, 1928, on the family farm located SW of Jacksonville, Iowa to Adolph and Johanna (Nielsen) Haas as the 6th of 7 children (Ruby, Edna, James, Russell, Amy, John and Donald) who have all passed. John was baptized and confirmed in the Bethlehem Lutheran Church of Jacksonville and attended Jackson #9 country school through the 8th grade.

Des Moines - Timothy Joseph Gross was born on December 16, 1949, the son of Leonard and Marie Katherine (Kaufman) Gross in Des Moines, Iowa. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Earling. Tim received his education from St. Joseph Catholic School until the 11th grade and graduated from Harlan High School with the class of 1968.On August 29, 1970, Tim married Pat Smith at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Earling.

Avoca - Wayne Jacobsen, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away on February 9, 2025, to Wilbert and Bernice (Hansen) Jacobsen, at the Salem Lutheran Home in Elk Horn, Iowa.

Joyce Reinig

Cambridge, Nebraska - Joyce Arlene (Wolfe) Reinig, 95, passed into Eternal Life on February 8, 2025. She was born on January 28, 1930 in Cambridge, Nebraska. She was the oldest of four children born to Darrel and Beulah (Woolman) Wolfe. Her family moved frequently but stayed in the Nebraska area.Because the family moved around a lot, Joyce attended many different schools.

Bernie Kremer

Persia - Bernard J. “Bernie” Kremer, age 82, of Council Bluffs, passed away February 1, 2025, at Jennie Edmundson Hospital. Bernie was born January 16, 1943, in Persia, IA to the late Clarence and Helen M. (Honeywell) Kremer. He graduated from Tri-Center High School, Neola, IA in 1961. Bernie was a police officer for the City of Council Bluffs and a bartender for 25 years at the Goldmine Bar & Grill.
