Cyclones host quick Bluejay squad in playoff opener

 HARLAN (Oct. 23) -- The wait is over. After watching from the sidelines last week courtesy of its first round playoff bye, the Harlan Community football team will join the postseason party Friday night at Merrill Field. The 2nd-ranked Cyclones (7-0) will host Bondurant-Farrar (5-3) in a Class 3A second round playoff game out of Pod 15.

 TABOR (Oct. 16) -- Tenth-ranked Fremont-Mills forced five turnovers in the game and raced out to a 45-0 halftime lead last Friday night en route to a 51-6 first-round playoff win over Exira-Elk Horn-Kimballton in 8-Player football action. Fremont-Mills (4-1) was led offensively by Jake Malcom’s 86 rushing yards (on just six carries) and one touchdown. He also passed for 96 yards and one score.

Bulldogs end Vikings’ season in first round, 53-12

 OAKLAND (Oct. 16) – The AHSTW Vikings ran into a Bulldog buzzsaw here Friday night, falling in the first round of the Class A playoffs to a talented Riverside team by a decisive 53-12 score. The Bulldogs utilized a balanced rushing and passing game, and some big plays, to strike early and often as they built a 46-6 halftime lead.

Cross country state qualifying meets set

 REGIONAL -- Area cross country teams will compete in state qualifying meets this week looking to advance teams and/or individuals to the 2020 State Cross Country Meet set for Friday-Saturday, Oct. 30-31, in Fort Dodge. On Wednesday (Oct. 21), the Harlan Community girls and boys squads will travel to Spencer to compete in a Class 3A State Qualifying Meet at the municipal golf course.

HCHS netters open regionals Oct. 22

 HARLAN (Oct. 22) -- After receiving a first-round bye on Tuesday, the Harlan Community volleyball team will open Class 4A regional play Thursday at 7:00 p.m., hosting Lewis Central (17-6) or ADM (3-21) in a Region 2 semifinal. The Cyclones, who finished the regular season 16-13 overall, have defeated both potential opponents.

Cyclones host Bluejays in 2nd round

 HARLAN (Oct. 16) -- The Harlan Community football team learned the identity of its second round playoff opponent on Friday night when Bondurant-Farrar defended its home field with a 14-7 first round win over ADM in Class 3A, Pod 15. HCHS, which earned a first-round bye, will host the Bluejays on Friday (Oct. 23) at Merrill Field. The second-ranked Cyclones will take a 7-0 record into their 39th all-time playoff appearance.

Lady Vikes, Wolves fall just shy of WIC team titles

 MISSOURI VALLEY (Oct. 12) -- The AHSTW girls and IKM-Manning boys both placed second by narrow margins and combined for five all-conference runners at Monday’s Western Iowa Conference Cross Country Meet. This year’s WIC championships were held at the Logan-Mo.

AHSTW falls to Lo-Ma in WIC Tourney

 LOGAN (Oct. 12) -- Playing for just the second time in nearly three weeks, seventh-seeded AHSTW was swept by No. 2 seed Logan-Magnolia in the quarterfinal round of the Western Iowa Conference Volleyball Tournament here Monday night. The Lady Vikes, who recently lost out on three WIC matches and one tournament due to health concerns at the school, were very competitive in set one vs.

WIC Volleyball: Wolves swept by Wheelers

 UNDERWOOD (Oct. 12) -- IKM-Manning was swept by Audubon in the 8 vs. 9 seed first round game of the Western Iowa Conference Volleyball Tournament Monday in Underwood. The Wheelers essentially led from start to finish in all three sets, prevailing 25-17, 25-19, 25-15. Audubon was then swept by top-seeded Underwood in the quarterfinals, 5-25, 12-25, 10-25. Jaci Christensen led the Wheelers with six kills vs.
