HARLAN — Local farmer, Janet Buman, recently directed a $5,000 Bayer Fund America’s Farmers Grow Communities donation to the Harlan Community School District Education Foundation.The Harlan Community School District Education Foundation will use the funds to supplement its STEM and Talented and Gifted Programs.

Tivoli Fest Queen and King Barb and Mark Smith of Elk Horn were crowned April 23 at the fundraising dinner. Both Barb and Mark have raised their family in Elk Horn and been very involved in the community. Also on hand to welcome people attending the dinner were the Tivoli 2022 Princess Susan Reinhardt, Kimballton and Prince Brody Larsen, Elk Horn.

The student actors of HCHS are setting a Trap with their upcoming performances on April 23-24, and it will leave audience members with a chill long after the show is over.Trap, written by Stephen Gregg, takes place in Menachap, CA, at a theater whose history is tainted with horror and tragedy.

City Councilor Troy Schaben took off his councilor’s hat Tuesday night and stepped behind the microphone to give the council details on an ambitious fund-raising project which aims to replace the lighting at JJ Jensen Park called Summer Nights and Ballpark Lights.    The project was inspired by a $250,000 matching grant through the Monogram Loves Kids Foundation.

Bauer’s Shoes store  has been selling the Nike brand of athletic shoes for 41 years. Since the footware giant began focusing more on consumer direct retail in the past few years, Keith Bauer has been waiting for the other shoe to drop. In January, the store received an email. Nike just did it.   Bauer says the email stated the company was changing the way they do business.
