Leave what you can.” It’s the simple concept behind Harlan Community Library’s Little Free Pantry, but library staff members hope it makes a big difference for those struggling with food insecurity. “Groceries are expensive.  HARLAN — The Shelby County Historical Museum has named Megan Londo Executive Director. Londo joined the museum’s staff in May 2024 as the Collections Assistant, accepting new objects, entering them into the database, then displaying them in the museum. “I got really into researching the history of our county and ended up writing an article for our newsletter, so my job description changed a little.

A new season is right around the turn for the HCHS Cyclones girls track and field team and they’ve been practicing for a week at Merrill Field.
“I’m very excited for this track season,” said Senior Lindsey Sonderman. “There is something special about our team and some of my favorite high school memories have been on the track with them so I’m very grateful for another season of that.”

HCHS Senior Aubrey Schwieso will continue her education and basketball career at Northwestern College.
“I’m just really excited,” Schwieso said. “It’s pretty cool to see all my hard work is paying off. I’m excited to see it come to life. I can’t wait to get up to Northwestern.”
Schwieso believes the private Christian college in Orange City is the perfect place for her.

The IKM-Manning Wolves girls track and field team is back at practice preparing for a new track and field season.
“We are extremely excited,” said Wolves Head Coach Emma Konkler-Petersen. “The girls ended the last season on a high note, and have been talking about this season since track ended last spring. We lost only three seniors and gained 14 freshmen.”

Practicing at Merrill Field, the HCHS boys track and field team is gearing up for a new track and field season set to begin in a few weeks.

UNDERWOOD - With 1.2 seconds remaining in regulation trailing by one to the Treynor Cardinals, the Exira-EHK Spartans were hoping for a last second shot to punch their ticket to the state tournament. The Spartans came up empty when Sophomore Taryn Petersen missed a shot attempt, losing 45-44 ending their season.

The ACGC Chargers came out of the gate and immediately set the tone In Tuesday’s 1A – 8 game against the IKM-Manning Wolves, starting with a 22-1 run and ending with a 83-56 win to end the Wolves’ season. 

Monday marked the end of the season and the end of an era for the Harlan Community High School boys basketball team. The Cyclones took a first round exit in Regional play against the Glenwood Rams, losing a close battle 57-56. It was the final game in the long and storied career of Cyclone Head Coach Mitch Osborn, who recently announced his retirement.
