Viking boys defeat Panthers 64-48

 AVOCA (Jan. 31) -- Raydden Grobe knocked down six three-pointers and scored 24 points last Friday night to lead the AHSTW boys basketball team past Logan-Magnolia 64-48. Joey Cunningham had three treys and 11 points for the Vikings, followed by Clayton Akers with nine points and eight rebounds. Sam Porter and Michael Mantell both added seven points and nine rebounds.

IKM-Manning falls to Cardinals

 MANNING (Jan. 31) -- The IKM-Manning boys were defeated by Treynor 75-49 last Friday night as the highly-ranked Cardinals pulled away in the fourth quarter by outscoring the Wolves 24-12.
   Top scorers for IKM-M included Colten Brandt with 13 points, Amos Rasmussen 10, Colby Keller nine and Parker Behrens eight.

Panthers hand Lady Vikes second loss

 AVOCA (Jan. 31) -- The AHSTW girls basketball team suffered just its second loss of the season Friday night, falling at home to Logan-Magnolia 54-41.
   Lady Vike Scoring: Kailey Jones 19 (10 rebounds), Claire Denning 10, Kinsey Scheffler 10, Morgan Heiny 2.

IKM-M girls cap sweep of Treynor

 MANNING (Jan. 31) -- The IKM-Manning girls basketball team defeated Treynor 50-42 on Friday night to complete a season sweep of the Cardinals.
   IKM-M Scoring Leaders: Lexi Branning 15, Bianca Cadwell 13, Bre Muhlbauer 7, Nicole Hanson 6, Emily Kerkhoff 5, Alexa Ahrenholtz 4.

Cyclones earn share of conference dual title

 CRESTON (Jan. 28) -- It wasn’t quite everything Harlan Community dreamed of Tuesday night, but it was an historic occasion nonetheless for the Cyclone wrestling program. Winning two out of three duals at Creston’s quad meet, HCHS wrapped up a share of this year’s Hawkeye Ten Conference dual title with a 45-24 win over Lewis Central.

HCHS girls rally past Monarchs

 DENISON (Jan. 28) -- In a game dictated by defense, Harlan Community outscored the Denison-Schleswig girls 12-3 in Tuesday’s fourth quarter to beat the Monarchs 37-33 and earn a split of the season series. HCHS avenged an earlier one-point loss to Denison and won for the fourth time in five games - all in a span of nine days.

Wolves beat Audubon boys 54-41

 MANNING (Jan. 27) -- The IKM-Manning boys improved to 7-7 overall Monday night with a 54-41 home win over Audubon. The Wolves (7-5 in the Western Iowa Conference) built a 27-16 halftime lead and were able to keep the Wheelers at bay during the final 16 minutes. Senior Colby Keller paced IKM-M with 14 points and six assists on the night while Colten Brandt also finished in double figures with 12 points and four steals.

 MANNING (Jan. 27) -- The IKM-Manning girls put together a strong first half that carried them past Audubon, 60-42, in Western Iowa Conference action Monday. The Wolves broke a tie with the Wheelers for third place in the WIC standings, improving to 9-3 in league play (11-4 overall). IKM-M led 17-6 after one quarter and 37-21 at the half.

HCHS girls put away Neumann late; Leinen MVP

 OMAHA, NEB. (Jan. 25) -- The Harlan Community girls basketball team capped a 3-1 week on the hardwood by defeating Wahoo Bishop Neumann 49-36 as part of the Nebraska Prep Classic last Saturday at Creighton’s D.J. Sokol Arena. HCHS (7-8) led 27-24 in the third quarter before pulling away with a pair of 8-0 runs. Cyclone junior Macie Leinen was named the Most Valuable Player of the game after finishing with 14 points and five rebounds.

Lemon, Bendorf win titles at Plattsmouth Invite

 PLATTSMOUTH, NEB. (Jan. 25) -- Ethan Lemon and Carter Bendorf both won championships and Nathan Henry was a runner-up last Saturday, leading Harlan Community to a tie for second place at the Plattsmouth Wrestling Invitational. Millard South, ranked first in Nebraska’s large-school Class A and 27th in the nation, claimed six champs and won the 17-team tournament with 280.5 points.
