Tuesday, the HCHS boys track and field team competed at home in the Ken Carstens Relays taking fourth place with 80.5 points.
“It’s always nice to have home meets,” said Cyclones Head Coach Sam Brummer. “It eliminates the travel, it’s a familiar setting and we obviously practice there daily, so it’s like a home field advantage, except you’re competing against 8-10 other teams, whereas in other sports it’s usually just one.”

The AHSTW Vikings boys varsity track and field team performed strong Thursday at the AHSTW Co-Ed event taking second place with 150 points, just five behind the winning Riverside Bulldogs.
Despite finishing second, Vikings head coach Jackson Renberg was still pleased with the results.

The HCHS girls soccer team was hoping to extend their win streak to four games, but ran into a buzzsaw Monday night on the road against the Kuemper Catholic Knights, losing 4-2.

After a week off, the HCHS boys varsity soccer team returned home to play the Kuemper Catholic Knights and beat them on their home turf, 2-0, winning their third game of the season.
It didn’t take long for the Cyclones to get on the board when Mason Anderson knocked in a goal 3 plus minutes into the game, giving the Cyclones an early 1-0 lead.

Monday at Harlan Golf & Country Club, the HCHS boys golf team had their first home meet of the season and were successful beating out the Lewis Central Titans by two strokes, 170-172.
Head coach Chad Swanson was pleased with what he saw overall, but highlighted a few individuals who have started off their seasons strong.

Thursday, the Exira-EHK Spartans boys track and field team finished in sixth place with 84 points, just four behind Griswold and Fremont Mills who tied for fourth place with 88.
Head coach Kevin Brown is optimistic once weather starts to improve, the tables will turn for the Spartans and they’ll perform much stronger.

The HCHS trap shooting team competed in the wind Saturday in Logan, but head coach Jason Paulsen was pleased with the results.

For the first time this season, the HCHS girls track and field team got the opportunity to compete at Merrill Field against six other schools and it came in handy with a first place finish with 134 points.

Tuesday on the road, the HCHS boys varsity golf team competed in their first match of the year at Majestic Hills Golf Course against the Denison-Schleswig Monarchs winning 180-182.
“Getting a road win to start the season is great for these guys, especially at the always difficult Majestic Hills of Denison,” said Cyclones Head Coach Chad Swanson.

The HCHS girls track and field team competed at Denison-Schleswig High School Tuesday night setting 17 new personal records, including a few first place finishes.

Less than 24 hours after competing at the Ram Relays in Glenwood, the HCHS boys track and field didn’t skip a beat as they came out and took a fourth place finish at the Denison Co-Ed event finishing fourth out of six schools.

“Overall, I thought we competed really well,” said Cyclones Head Coach Sam Brummer. “I thought the stuff we put out on the track had a lot of quality performances top to bottom.”

With 22 minutes remaining in Monday’s game against the St. Albert Falcons, Junior Ian Shelton scored his second goal of the night, putting his team up 3-2 and earning their second win of the season.

After losing 3-2 to St. Albert in the Class 1A – Region 2 game last season, the Cyclones were determined to get redemption and were successful in a 2-1 Monday night road victory.

The Harlan trap shooting team began their 2023 season placing first with both the Intermediate and Rookie teams Saturday. The Varsity team didn’t place in the top three.
