Senior Cole Scheffler made history for the Vikings Thursday night at home against the Treynor Cardinals becoming the all-time steals leader in the history of AHSTW.
“Every time he makes a play, it’s our play, not just his,” said Junior Nick Denning of Scheffler. “We’re both bird dogs. It’s just fun to play with him.”

Treynor Senior Clara Teigland led the way with 17 points for the Cardinals over the Vikings cruising to a 68-33 victory in dominant fashion.

Freshman Ben Ramsey led the way for the Wolves Tuesday night at home to a dominant 63-46 victory over Missouri Valley to snap a 3-game losing streak.
“Last week was a tough week for us,” said Wolves Head Coach Keith Wagner. “We played some really good competition, all on the road, and we wanted to try and bounce back tonight.”

The IKM-Manning Wolves girls got back in the win column after dropping its previous five games with a 53-22 win Tuesday night at home over the Lady Reds.
“It feels really good,” said Senior Mabel Langel. “We needed a win.”

The HCHS boys varsity basketball team ran into a buzzsaw Monday night, falling to the Winterset Huskies, 66-52.
“We ran into a very, very hot shooting team,” said Cyclones Head Coach Mitch Osborn. “Winterset is definitely capable of that. They were on fire. They had seven 3’s at the half. I think they had seven or eight the second half.”

Juniors Erica Rust and Hannah Sonderman led the way for the Cyclones Monday night at home against the #12 4A ranked Winterset Huskies, giving them their second consecutive win and 12th of the season.
“This was a really good win for us,” Rust said. “Winterset is a great team. They’re ranked in 4A, but we just came together as a team and got it done.”

Senior Jacob Birch scored 18 points leading his team to a 64-55 victory over the Creston Panthers Friday night at home. For the Cyclones, it was a much needed bounce back victory after dropping their previous game to the Denison-Schleswig Monarchs in overtime.
“You just got to take it one game at a time,” Birch said. “We came in, practiced, took it one play at a time and won.”

Junior Erica Rust and Sophomore Aubrey Schwieso were the stars of the night en route to a double overtime victory against the Creston Panthers for their 11th win of the season.
“We kind of needed a bounce back win after last night,” said Cyclones Head Coach Zach Klaassen. “We kind of boat raced over in Carroll. They just couldn’t miss a three, so tonight was a big one.”

The HCHS varsity boys basketball team was hoping for redemption Tuesday night at home against the Denison-Schleswig Monarchs, after dropping their previous game to them on the road Dec. 9, but dropped the game in overtime, 69-63.

Junior Erica Rust and Sophomore Aubrey Schwieso both scored 22 points en route to victory over the Denison-Schleswig Monarchs on senior night. For the Cyclones, they snap their 2-game losing streak and earn their 10th win.
“It definitely feels good,” Schwieso said. “I think we needed some confidence and I think we came out and played a really good game tonight.”

Senior Hawkeye Koleson Evans stole the show with 25 points en route to a 78-58 victory over the Exira-EHK Spartans Monday night.
“We just had to compete,” said Spartans Head Coach Doug Newton. “Try to match their intensity, do the job on defense and execute on offense. They were a little better at it than we were early.”

Seniors Quinn Grubbs and Shay Burmeister led the Spartans in scoring as they cruised to their eighth consecutive victory, 72-25, over the West Harrison Hawkeyes.
“We wanted to make sure that we don’t develop bad habits while we were playing,” said Spartans Head Coach Tom Petersen. “I thought in the beginning we were kind of giving up too much dribble penetration, so we talked a little bit about it.”

Junior Franz Reisz and Senior Brad Curren led the way for the Cyclones Saturday afternoon in downtown Omaha at Creighton University en route to a 70-47 victory over the North Bend Tigers.
“We looked forward to it,” said Cyclones Head Coach Mitch Osborn. “We we’re playing somebody that doesn’t know you very well. I thought they were much better in-person than they were on film.”

The HCHS girls varsity basketball team went down to Omaha Saturday morning to Creighton University to battle the Oakland-Craig Knights, but came up just short, dropping a hard fought game, 48-42.
“We just talked about situations we’ve got to get better at,” said Cyclones Head Coach Zach Klaassen, after a hard loss.

The Exira-EHK boys varsity basketball team won their fourth game in a row Friday night at home against the CAM Cougars, 62-51.
“Anytime you get a win, it’s good, especially a conference win,” said Spartans Head Coach Doug Newton. “We just keep plugging along, trying to do what we can do, holding up our end of the bargain and see what we can do next time we face some of the other top foes in the conference.”
