Sophomore Aubrey Schwieso led the way with 17 points for the Cyclones Friday night at home against the St. Albert Saintes en route to a 49-33, handing St. Albert their first loss of the season.

Junior Aiden Flathers led the way for the Spartans Thursday night with 20 points against the Woodbine Tigers, defeating them in dominant fashion 64-31 for EHK’s eighth win of the season.

The undefeated (7-0) Woodbine Tigers came into Exira Thursday night to battle the Spartans and won in close fashion 38-37.
“We had a chance there at the end,” said Spartans Head Coach Tom Petersen. “We had multiple opportunities I felt to knock shots down. I also told the girls that I was proud of the effort, but we’ve got to be able to finish. It’s one of those games that can go either way.”

Lewis Central Juniors Nash Paulson and Curtis Witte led the way for the Titans at home Tuesday night over the Cyclones to a dominant 51-33 victory.
Cyclone Senior Brad Curren made his season debut after missing the first six games due to a pinky injury.
“It’s great to have him [Curren] back,” said Cyclones Head Coach Mitch Osborn. “Brad had a lot of good looks in his first one back.”

Lewis Central Junior Guard Lucy Scott led the way for the Titans scoring 18 points en route to a 53-26 victory over the HCHS Cyclones Tuesday night.
The Titans came out of the gate aggressively with a 7-0 run before Cyclone head coach Zach Klaassen called his first timeout. The timeout didn’t affect the LC scoring, holding a 19-4 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Aidan Hall, a senior at HCHS officially signed a Letter of Intent to go play football for the Iowa Hawkeyes in Iowa City.
“It feels good,” Hall said. “To finally be able to make things official, it feels great. It’s been a long journey and I’m just excited for this next chapter of my life.”

Stephen Leinen, a senior at HCHS has signed a Letter of Intent to play football at Dordt University, a private evangelical Christian university in Sioux Center following the conclusion of his high school days.
“It feels awesome,” Leinen said. “I’m super excited to be a part of their program. It really feels like a family and I’m super excited to be a part of their agricultural program too. I’m looking forward to that.”

Sophomore Aubrey Schwieso led the Cyclones to their fifth consecutive victory scoring 21 points on the night and handing the Panorama Panthers their first loss of the season.
“It feels really good,” Schwieso said. “Obviously they’re a great team and we’re on a winning streak and hopefully we’ll get one more tomorrow.”

Exira-EHK Sophomore Bella Muller continues to dominate in weightlifting taking home first place in the Iowa-Nebraska Weightlifting State Organization Championship.
Muller also took home first place in her age group and had significantly less body weight than the other girls she competed against.

McKaylie Croghan is the current head coach of the IKM-Manning Wolves volleyball team. Croghan has been with the Wolves for four years, one year of junior high and three years with varsity.
Before coming to Manning, Croghan was a special education teacher at Glidden-Ralston high school.

After her performance Saturday at the Regional Meet in Waukee, future Olivet Nazarene swimmer and Cyclone Senior Elaina Vrchoticky qualified for the State Meet, set to be held Nov. 12 in Marshalltown.
Vrchoticky has been one of the leaders of the team this season and head coach Stephenie Dale expressed gratitude for Vrchoticky and how proud she is for how hard she’s battled all season to get to this point.

Senior Grace Porter of AHSTW made history recently when she recorded her 1,000th dig during a playoff volleyball game against the IKM-Manning Wolves. Porter was quick to credit her teammates for this accomplishment.

For the final time this season, seven members of the HCHS girls varsity cross country gathered in Fort Dodge Saturday to compete in the state meet. Senior Jenna Gessert, Juniors Emily Schechinger and Taylor Bieker, Sophomores Lindsey Sonderman, Kayla Anderson and Brylee Schechinger and Freshman Lily Schechinger represented HCHS.

Senior wide receiver and future Hawkeye Aidan Hall was the star of the night for the HCHS varsity football team as he had three touchdowns en route to a 42-7 first round playoff victory over the 6-3 #9 ranked MOC-Floyd Valley Dutchmen to begin the challenge of a title defense.

The HCHS girls swim team competed Tuesday night at the Lewis Central Invite and multiple girls stood out, including Senior Elaina Vrchoticky who won the 200-yard freestyle beating out the 2021 champion Hannah Steinmets, whose time was 2:08.82.
Vrchoticky also finished second in the 100-yard freestyle event, right on the tail of Lewis Central’s Sydnie Collins. Due to her efforts, she managed to stand on the podium with a few medals.
