HARLAN – The Harlan City Council Tuesday, Oct.

HARLAN -- Students at Shelby County Catholic School dressed up Monday for team spirit day as part of Red Ribbon/Character Counts Week activities.  Students at the Catholic school and Harlan Community Schools have been learning about the pillars of character -- trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring and citizenship. 

HARLAN -- Betty Andersen of Harlan will observe her 90th birthday on November 3. Her family is planning a card shower in her honor.    Cards will reach her if sent to 2001 18th Street, Harlan, IA 51537. 

    DEFIANCE -- The family of Estelle Quinn is planning a card shower in honor of her 90th birthday on November 9. Cards will reach her if sent to 100 E. 7th Street, Defiance, IA 51527.    Estelle’s family includes Denny and Lou Quinn, Chaska, MN; Mary and Chet Plisiewicz, Delray Beach, FL; the late Dan Quinn  and Linda Quinn, Harlan; and Don and Barb Quinn, Langhorne, PA. She has eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. 

PANAMA -- Dan and Laura Wingert of Panama celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary on October 13.    The couple has four children: Danielle, a freshman at Peru State College; Marissa, a junior at HCHS; Abby, an eighth grader at HCMS; and Lauren, a fourth grader at SCCS. 

EARLING -- Leo and Rosemary Hahn of Earling will mark their 60th wedding anniversary on October 29.        Their family includes son, Mike Hahn, Earling; daughter, the late Patti Hahn, and two grandsons.
