ALTA -- IKM-Manning faced the complete package in last Friday’s Class 2-A regional semifinal volleyball match at Alta. Second-ranked Unity Christian (35-4) featured three six-footers at the net - including a 6-1 setter - along with talented back row players and quality, aggressive servers. The Wolves entered the night on a nice roll, but the Knights were simply on another level overall, ending IKM-Manning’s season in three quick sets, 25-13,

 AVOCA -- Shut out for the second time in its last four games, AHSTW was ousted by Ridge View, 28-0, in a Class 1-A first-round playoff game last Wednesday night. The Vikings finished 6-4 overall, while Ridge View improved to 8-2. The Raptors lost to South Central Calhoun in the second round Monday night, 35-17.

 EXIRA -- The Exira-Elk Horn-Kimballton football team never recovered from a poor start last Wednesday night, losing to East Mills, 54-15, in an 8-Player first-round playoff game. The Spartans finished the season with an 8-2 record while East Mills (8-2) advanced and beat Lenox 58-34 in Monday’s second round.

    MINDEN -- Megan Peters of Shelby and Thad Nelson of Treynor were married at the United Church of Christ in Minden on June 6, 2015. The 4:30 p.m. double ring ceremony was performed by Pastor Brian Wohlhutter.    Parents of the couple are Dave and Bonnie Peters, Shelby; and Denny and Judi Nelson, Exira.

    HARLAN – Renovations at the Harlan Airport are coming to a close this fall, as a $1.2 million runway paving project is nearly complete and Rushenberg Field gets set to re-open to aviation traffic.    Crews this week are nearing the finish of a 3,000-foot, six-inch concrete overlay construction project that began in early September.  Harlan City Administrator Terry Cox said it’s exciting to see the project come to fruition.

    COUNTY -- Voter turnout was low for Tuesday’s municipal election that saw many incumbents elected to office as well as write-in candidates.    Harlan saw only a 1.9 percent voter turnout.  Incumbent Mayor Gene Gettys, Jr. received a total of 56 votes in retaining his mayor position.  David H.

    DEFIANCE – Groceries, pop and beer bought at Walmart were among improper disbursements made by a former Defiance City Clerk now charged with theft, according to a special investigation by the state auditor’s office.    Auditor of State Mary Mosiman released Tuesday a report on the special investigation for the City of Defiance, for the period of March 12, 2013-April 30, 2015.    The investigation was requested by city officials as a result
